Gratitude for Mondays: A Light-hearted Reflection

Ah, Mondays! The marmite of weekdays you either love them or despise them. I belong to the minority who genuinely loves Mondays. I know what you're thinking: Who loves Mondays? Well, buckle up because I’m about to take you on a gratitude-filled journey to appreciate this much-maligned day.

The Beauty of Mondays

Let’s start with the fact that Mondays are beautiful. Yes, beautiful! The air feels fresher, the birds chirp a tad louder, and everybody puts on their “new week” smile at least until mid-morning coffee wears off. Mondays feel like a crisp, unmarked page in a diary. A fresh start. A chance to seize the week and achieve all your goals (or at least pretend to).

This particular Monday was extra special because I didn’t have to go to work. Before you roll your eyes thinking, Oh, that’s why she loves Mondays, hear me out. I had a business meeting, which, if you’re me, means dressing up to the nines. Picture me: looking all gorgeous, strutting down the street as if the world were my runway. Masha Allah tabarakallah, indeed.

Unusual Monday Vibes

This Monday didn’t have the usual hustle and bustle thanks to the holiday vibes in the air. And while I missed the energetic chaos of seeing serious people bustling around, I was reminded to be grateful for those bubbling Mondays that push me to my limits. Mondays are like coffee strong, sometimes bitter, but absolutely essential.

The Monday Workout and the Egusi Saga

I started the day with my hour-long exercise. At exactly 6:05 AM, I hit the road, and by 7:25 AM, I was back, sweaty but triumphant. I was proud of myself until I remembered my long-anticipated craving: egusi soup. For weeks, I’d dreamed of the perfect bowl of egusi soup. The kind that makes your taste buds do a happy dance. So, I got cooking.

Now, here’s the thing about cooking egusi soup on a Monday morning you don’t have time. You’re chopping, stirring, seasoning, and occasionally tasting (for quality assurance, of course), all while the clock mocks you. By the time my masterpiece was ready, it was 9:35 AM. And guess who hadn’t showered yet? Me.

I rushed into the shower like a Formula 1 driver pulling into the pit stop. In 15 minutes, I emerged, fresh and ready. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Quick makeup? Check. Outfit? Slayed. Confidence? Through the roof.

Running Late: A Lesson in Communication

As I headed to my 10:00 AM meeting, I realized I’d be a few minutes late. Cue the internal drama: What if he thinks I’m unprofessional? What if he’s already annoyed? Then, the rational part of my brain kicked in and said, Why not communicate?

So, I sent a quick message explaining my situation. To my surprise, my friend was fine with it. In fact, he had stepped out to attend to a client and told me to wait at his office. The lesson here? Communication is everything. Sometimes, we overthink and stress about situations when a simple message can clear the air.

A Quick Detour to the Kitchen

Since I had some time to kill, I dashed back home to tidy up my kitchen. Let me confess: I hate leaving my kitchen unkempt. It’s like an itch you can’t scratch. So, I channelled my inner superhero, cleaned up at lightning speed, and felt like I could conquer the world. Kitchen clean? Check. Back to the meeting? Double check.

This Monday taught me a few important lessons:

1. The Power of Communication

I could’ve let lateness ruin my day, but one message turned a potentially awkward situation into a seamless one. Communication isn’t just about words; it’s about connection and understanding.

2. The Joy of Productivity

From exercising to cooking egusi soup to attending my meeting, this Monday was packed. And you know what? I loved every moment of it. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you set your mind to it.

3. Appreciating the Chaos

I may have missed the usual Monday hustle, but it made me appreciate the energy of a typical Monday. There’s something invigorating about diving headfirst into a new week, challenges and all.

4. Self-Care is Key

Whether it’s exercising, cooking a meal you’ve been craving, or simply taking a moment to breathe, self-care is crucial. And Mondays are the perfect day to prioritize it.

Mondays can be chaotic, but they’re also hilariously unpredictable. Who knew cooking soup could feel like an Olympic sport? Or that cleaning a kitchen could feel like saving the world? The humour lies in embracing the imperfections. Life isn’t always neat and tidy, but it’s those messy, laugh-out-loud moments that make it worthwhile.

Call to Action: Make Mondays Yours

So, here’s my challenge to you: fall in love with Mondays. Find something anything that makes you excited to start the week. Maybe it’s a new workout routine, a delicious breakfast, or even dressing up just because. And if you’re not feeling it, fake it till you make it. Smile, communicate, and embrace the chaos. Mondays are a gift unwrap them with gratitude.

My parting thoughts, Mondays are like a mixed bag of surprises. They’re beautiful, messy, productive, and hilarious all at once. And for that, I’m grateful. So, here’s to more Mondays filled with laughter, lessons, and maybe a bowl of egusi soup.

Happy Monday, everyone!
