Monday Blues? Let’s Flip the Script with Gratitude!

Have You Ever Thanked Monday?

Have you ever taken a moment to express gratitude for your job? Not just for the paycheck but for the routine, structure, and sense of purpose it brings?

Now, let’s go deeper have you ever said “thank you” to Monday?

Yes, Monday!

The most misunderstood, most unfairly hated day of the week. If Monday had feelings, it would have filed an official complaint against humanity by now. The way people talk about it, you’d think it was responsible for global warming, taxes, and broken phone screens all at once.

But today, we’re changing the narrative Monday deserves gratitude, and I’ll tell you why.

Especially when you've spent the weekend hiking up mountains with Naija Adventures, pretending to be a fitness guru, only to wake up Monday morning feeling like an overused rechargeable fan. Well, not me. I had gone jogging earlier and got 12,000 steps for the day.

I Used to Dread Mondays Too… Until This

 Changed

I wasn’t always a fan of Mondays. In fact, I used to be one of those people who dreaded them. You know the feeling of that sinking Sunday evening realization that the weekend is over and the cycle begins again.

The early alarms.

The workload waiting for me.

The customers demanded responses.

It felt overwhelming.

But then, I had a shift in perspective.

I realized that Monday wasn’t the problem. My mindset was.

Mondays, in reality, are just days. They aren’t out to ruin our lives. They are actually opportunities for a fresh start, a clean slate, a chance to take control of the week ahead.

Once I changed my mindset, everything else followed.

Now, I love Mondays.

Not because I have a job (though I’m grateful for it), but because Mondays have a beautiful energy that no other day has. It’s a day when people actually try to be productive. Even if they’re not feeling it, they put on their best effort because, well, bills need to be paid!

The Monday That Changed Everything

One Monday morning, I decided to test this whole “gratitude for Monday” idea. Instead of groaning when my alarm rang, I smiled (okay, it was a sleepy smile) and said, “Thank you, Monday.” I put on my favourite outfit, played some good music, and treated myself to a nice breakfast.

That day? Everything felt lighter. Work didn’t feel as draining, and even small wins felt more exciting. That’s when I realized Monday was never the problem. It was always my attitude.

And just like that, Mondays became my new favourite challenge.

The Magic of Monday’s Productivity Vibe

If you really think about it, Monday saves businesses. Imagine if the week started on a Friday chaos! Monday is the day that sets the tone.

Look around you on a Monday morning:

✔️ People dress sharper than they do later in the week.

✔️ Everyone moves with a sense of purpose (at least for the first few hours).

✔️ Workplaces have this focused energy even if it fades by Wednesday.

Instead of seeing Monday as an enemy, see it as a motivator.

It’s that friend who drags you out of bed and reminds you, “You have goals to achieve!”

How to Make Mondays Feel Lighter (A Mindfulness Moment)

Let’s pause for a moment.

Take a deep breath in… hold it for five seconds… and exhale slowly.

Now, say this with me:

🗣️ "Thank you, Monday, for giving me another chance to grow."

🗣️ "Thank you, Monday, for the fresh start you bring."

🗣️ "Thank you, Monday, for reminding me that I am capable."

Feels good, right? Gratitude shifts our energy and makes room for positivity.

Instead of waking up and sighing, “Ugh, it’s Monday,” try saying:

"Yes! It’s Monday let’s go!"

Monday and Mental Wellness: Easing the Anxiety

I won’t ignore the fact that Monday's anxiety is real. The thought of deadlines, meetings, or just leaving home can feel heavy.

If you feel this way, here’s your reminder:

✔️ You are capable. Whatever comes your way, you can handle it.

✔️ You are in control. You may not control everything, but you control your mindset.

✔️ You deserve grace. You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to show up.

If Mondays feel overwhelming, try small self-care habits to ease into them:

☑️ Play an upbeat “Monday Motivation” playlist on your way to work.

☑️ Reward yourself with a favourite breakfast or coffee.

☑️ Wear something that makes you feel confident.

☑️ Start with one small win before diving into big tasks.

Have You Noticed How Fresh Everyone Looks?

One of my favourite things about Monday? People look GOOD.

Seriously, have you noticed? Walk into the office, and you’ll see:

✅ Fresh haircuts

✅ Neatly ironed outfits

✅ New perfumes in action

Of course, by Wednesday, things may not look as polished but let’s appreciate Monday's freshness while it lasts.

(And if your colleague isn’t smelling as fresh as they look… well, if your budget allows, gift them a body spray. Consider it an investment in your Monday experience.)

Monday: The Day of Gratitude and Growth

Here’s the truth:

What you focus on expands.

If you focus on dreading Monday, it will feel heavy. If you focus on the fresh start it brings, you’ll begin to appreciate it.

So, here’s my challenge to you:

Wake up next Monday and say:

🗣️ "Today is a good day. Monday, I welcome you with gratitude."

Even if it feels silly at first, keep saying it. Your mindset will shift, and soon, you’ll stop dreading Mondays and start embracing them.

One More Time: Let’s Give Monday Its Flowers 🌸

Let’s say it together one last time:

💙 "Thank you, Monday, for giving me a fresh start."

💙 "Thank you, Monday, for making me productive."

💙 "Thank you, Monday, for reminding me that I have another chance to grow."

Now, go forth and own your Monday. You’ve got this!

Peace. ✨
